Controversial Death of Student Leader Padam Gurung Classified as Accidental, Investigating Officer Suspended
Northeast Desk, 2nd November: The case surrounding the controversial death of student leader Padam Gurung has taken a surprising twist, as it has now been officially classified as an accidental death.
This revelation has prompted the suspension of Investigating Officer Sidharth Subba and a show-cause notice issued to SP Manish Kumar Verma, alleging supervisory failure in the case.
The unexpected turn of events follows a judicial inquiry led by Justice Narendra Kumar Jain, the Former Chief Justice of the High Court of Sikkim. This inquiry was commissioned by the State Government to investigate the untimely death of Padam Gurung, a Student Representative Council (SRC) member at Sikkim Government College, Kamrang in Namchi District.
Justice Jain presented the comprehensive inquiry report, which was contained in two briefcases, to Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang at his official residence in Mintokgang. The student leader’s death had triggered controversy and public interest, ultimately leading to the formation of this one-man judicial commission to shed light on the circumstances surrounding his demise.
