Controversy Surrounds ‘Oppenheimer’ Movie as CBFC Faces Backlash Over Bhagavad Gita Scene

National Desk, 24th July: Amidst growing controversy, the film ‘Oppenheimer,’ directed by Christopher Nolan, has come under scrutiny for a particular intimate scene involving the recitation of verses from the Bhagavad Gita. Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur, expressed his strong displeasure over the inclusion of this scene and has taken action against the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Thakur directed the CBFC to delete the scene from the movie.

Reports suggest that the government might initiate actions against officials who were responsible for approving the controversial scene. This move comes after the movie, which was released on July 21, received widespread criticism for its portrayal of a woman reciting Bhagavad Gita verses during a sexual encounter.

Uday Mahurkar, an Information Commissioner with the government of India, also joined the conversation, sharing a press release by the ‘Save Culture Save India Foundation.’ He expressed bewilderment over how the CBFC could have approved the film with such a scene.

The ‘Save Culture Save India Foundation’ press statement strongly condemned the scene, calling for an urgent investigation by the I&B Ministry. They demanded severe punishment for those involved in the inclusion of the controversial scene.
