Guwahati: Chabua Police in Dibrugarh district of Assam opened fire at a truck on Monday on suspicion of smuggling coal, officials said.
The incident reportedly occurred late last night at the Chabua bypass. The truck apparently fell on the wayside after being fired upon.
According to officials, one person was taken into custody from the truck. He was driving the vehicle at the time of the incident, they added.
Police further stated that they were following the truck from Tinsukia and that when the truck would not stop despite repeated requests, the police were forced to use firearms.
Meanwhile, there have been no casualties associated with the incident to date. The motorist has been brought in for questioning by police, who have begun an investigation into the incident.
