Cotton University Student Sent To Three-Day Cop Custody In BJP Leader Assault Case
Guwahati: A Cotton University student has been sentenced to three days of judicial imprisonment in connection with the BJP leader assault case by a lower court in Guwahati.
According to reports, the accused, identified as Sanjay Ranthal was arrested by Panbajari Police yesterday.
Four students in all were arrested in connection to the incident.
The other defendants were also taken into jail by the court.
According to information, the arrested students have been identified as Mriganka Kashyap, Hrishikesh Das, Sanjay Rangthal and Mousum Mahanta. They are currently lodged at Panbazar police station
Sanjay was nabbed from Guwahati Airport while he was on the run.
Meanwhile, a number of other university students who were allegedly implicated in the assault case have vanished.
The police claimed that efforts are being made to track their whereabouts using their mobile devices and warned that additional arrests are unavoidable.
A group of at least 30 Guwahati youths are accused of attacking the general secretary of the BJP’s Guwahati unit earlier that night, on March 4.
The incident occurred close to the Guwahati Railway Station and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
The victim BJP leader identified as Bijoy Pathak was beaten black and blue by the youths and had to get 21 stitches on his head.
