Guwahati: A local court in Assam’s Goalpara district has sentenced a school teacher to life in jail for sexually abusing a teenage girl student.
Humayun Kabir, a teacher at a private school in Goalpara town was sentenced to life in jail by the Special Court of Goalpara on Monday.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the defendant.
According to reports, the accused reportedly sexually molested a youngster on the school grounds in 2018.
Later, the victim’s family filed a complaint with the Goalpara Sadar police station and a case was opened.
Advocate Sanjay Sarma said that the Sharmila Bhuyan Special Judge Court handed down the final judgement in the sexual molestation case that was filed in 2018.
“The court has sentenced the accused to life in jail and issued a fine of Rs 50,000, and if he does not pay, he will be sentenced to another year of simple imprisonment under the protection of children from sexual offences (POCSO) act,” Sarma added.
