Covaxin and Covishied prices cut to Rs 225

Guwahati: The Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin and Serum Institute of India’s Covishield will now cost Rs 225 at private hospitals. Moreover, the hospitals will charge Rs 150 for administering the dose.

CEO of SII Adar Poonwalla said in a tweet on Saturday that after after consultation with the central government, the vaccine maker has decided to slash the prices of the Covid-19 jab for private hospitals from Rs 600 to Rs 225.

The Centre on Friday announced that Covid booster dose will be available for everyone above the age of 18 from April 10 at private vaccination centres and hospital.

It may be mentioned that the booster dose is available to anyone who is 18 years old or older and has been nine months since the second dose was administered. From Sunday, this service will be offered in all private vaccination clinics.

More than 2.4 crore precautionary doses have been given to healthcare staff, frontline workers, and people aged 60 and up thus far.

Despite the fact that Covid immunisation decreases the severity of the infection, various reports suggest that vaccination becomes less effective over time, particularly in persons aged 65 and up.

It is to be noted that fully vaccinated people are at danger of becoming infected again due to the introduction of the extremely contagious Omicron strain of coronavirus in China and other parts of the world.
