COVID-19: Meghalaya govt issues new restrictions

Guwahati: In view of the rapid increase of the new variant of Covis-19 Omicron Meghalaya government announced new restrictions in the state which will take place from 5th January 2022.

Here is the list of the restrictions issued by the government:

1. All official, public, and political gatherings are forbidden. Weddings, on the other hand, are permitted in enclosed spaces at 50% of capacity and in unenclosed/open spaces at a maximum of 100 people.

2. Funerals are restricted to a maximum of 50 people.

3. All persons entering the state, including those who have been completely vaccinated, must present an RTPCR negative report valid 72 hours prior to arrival at the Covid Screening Centre at the entry ports or undertake an obligatory RTPCR test. It is required for persons being tested at the Covid Screening Centres at the entry points to be segregated until the report is received.

4. Private vehicles are permitted to operate under the Odd-Even rule, with registration numbers ending in odd numbers permitted to operate on Monday and those ending in even numbers permitted to operate on Tuesday, as per directives issued by respective Deputy Commissioners. The restriction on the Odd-Even rule does not apply on Sundays.

5. Night curfew will be implemented in the state from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Goods vehicles, such as those transporting agricultural produce and those involved in medical emergencies, are exempt from the curfew.

6. Everyone should follow Covid’s guidelines, which include wearing masks in public and maintaining social distance. All eligible individuals are recommended to be vaccinated.
