Covid Cleaning Employees Stage Protest Against Dismissal From Work In Guwahati

Guwahati: The covid cleaning employees protested in Guwahati against the government’s decision to terminate them on Thursday.

According to reports, the health department may have hired 1,324 cleaners for the Covid Care Center in 2020.

The cleaners were dismissed by the government as soon as the COVID-19 pandemic ended.

One of the protestors said, “My daughter died in the seasonal flood and wasn’t able to even see her body as I was committed to covid cleaning work. We were promised permanent jobs instead we got terminated.”

Another person claimed, “The Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Health Minister at the time offered us permanent positions. He said we will not get terminated and we also have evidence. Within the next four months were terminated of CM’s announcement.”

The protest was held again in Khanapara after various protests in the past two years.

The police arrested the protestors from the demonstration venue.
