COVID mass vaccination drive starts in Japan
Japan has started a mass vaccination drive against COVID-19 with the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine. First person in Japan to be vaccinated is the Tokyo Medical Center President Kazuhiro Araki. Of the 40,000 health workers being vaccinated in the initial phase, 20,000 will be monitored to track side effects potentially caused by the vaccine.
The covid vaccination drive has the support of the government, but there’s widespread wariness, even opposition, among citizens to having the Games at all. About 80% of those polled in recent media surveys support cancellation or further postponement of the Olympics because of the virus worries.
