IMPHAL — In a sweeping crackdown against insurgency and extortion networks, Manipur security forces arrested multiple active cadres from various proscribed valley-based outfits over two days of intensified operations on May 7 and 8.
Coordinated combing operations across Imphal, Thoubal, Bishnupur, and adjoining districts led to the arrest of several militants and the recovery of arms, ammunition, and illicit materials.
Key highlights of the operations include:
• Thoubal District (May 8): Four active members of the banned KCP (MFL) group—Ningthoujam Amitra Singh, Phairembam Manglemnganba Meitei, Chesaba Umar Ali, and Yumnam Angaosana Singh—were arrested from Lamding Khumanthem Leikai. They were allegedly involved in extortion, kidnapping, and threatening government and financial institutions. Recoveries included a 9 mm country-made pistol, a grenade, live rounds, and mobile phones.
• Imphal West District (May 8): KCP (Noyon-MFL) cadre Yumnam Bidyasagar Meitei was arrested from Sekmai Bazar.
• NH-102, Lilong Bridge (May 7): A major breakthrough occurred when police rescued kidnapping victim Md. Sadam Hussain and arrested three UNLF(P) members—Laishram Amarjit Singh, Khumanthem Motilal Singh, and Yumnam Hitlar Meitei—suspected of abducting Hussain from RIMS, Lamphel, for ransom. A 9 mm pistol, cash, mobile phones, Aadhaar cards, and a vehicle were seized.

• Sagolsem Bobo Meetei (KCP-PWG) from Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.
• Khundrakpam Naresh Singh from Bishnupur district—both linked to extortion rackets.
• Hidam Aboy Singh (KCP-Noyon) from Nongren Maning Leikai, Imphal East.
In addition to the arrests, police recovered three stolen vehicles and removed tinted glasses from 76 others during a special statewide drive targeting vehicle-related crimes.
Authorities say the operations mark a decisive effort to dismantle underground networks destabilizing the region and restore law and order across Manipur.
