Crazy Fan Tries to Break into Jungkook’s Home After Military Discharge
Entertainment: Seoul police have apprehended a Chinese woman in her thirties who allegedly attempted to breach the private residence of BTS superstar Jungkook, mere days after his return from mandatory military service on June 11. The incident has cast a spotlight on the escalating security challenges facing the world-renowned K-pop group as its members transition back to civilian life.
Reports from the police indicate that the woman repeatedly tried to gain entry into Jungkook’s home by attempting to guess his security pin code at the front door. She was intercepted by security personnel during several failed attempts to break in. “I wished to see Jungkook after his discharge from the military,” the woman reportedly told authorities following her arrest.
Jungkook, 26, concluded his 18-month mandatory military service with the Army’s 5th Infantry Division in Yeoncheon County, Gyeonggi Province. His discharge on June 11 saw hundreds of devoted fans gather to welcome him back, an occasion shared with fellow BTS member Jimin, who was also discharged on the same day. Addressing his supporters at the discharge ceremony, the singer expressed his gratitude, stating, “To all the ARMYs who came, thank you for coming to see us as we’re being discharged. I have been officially discharged as of June 11. I hereby report it!”
The return of Jimin and Jungkook closely followed the discharge of RM and V on June 10, bringing the total number of BTS members back in civilian life to six out of seven. Only Min Yoongi, famously known as Suga, remains in service, with his discharge slated for June 21. Jimin, hinting at what’s next for the group, shared during his discharge speech, “Now that we’re discharged, we’ll begin painting the picture we’ve been preparing. We’ll show you better things from now on.”
This attempted break-in underscores the intense fan scrutiny and attention that BTS members face upon their completion of military service. In South Korea, all able-bodied men are required to complete approximately 18 months of military duty, typically before reaching the age of 30. Jin was the first BTS member to be discharged in June 2024, followed by J-Hope earlier this year. Each discharge has garnered considerable media attention and widespread fan gatherings.
HYBE Corporation, the management agency for BTS, has yet to issue a statement regarding the security incident or any enhanced protective measures for the returning members. Jungkook has indicated his intention to share more about his military experience during upcoming live broadcasts on the fan platform Weverse, though specific dates are still awaited. The highly anticipated complete reunion of BTS, a moment globally awaited by their devoted fanbase known as ARMY, is now just ten days away, contingent on Suga’s discharge on June 21.
