Cricket fans, rejoice! Barsapara In talks to host ODI between Ind-SL In Jan
Guwahati: The ongoing negotiations to host an international one-day cricket match at the ACA Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati are good news for the cricket fans in Assam.
According to reports, negotiations are in progress to have the Guwahati stadium host one of the one-day international (ODI) games in the series between India and Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lankan cricket team will visit India in January of the next year. A delegation from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will travel to Guwahati to inspect the stadium in this regard.
BCCI representatives are expected to arrive for the inspection, following which it will be decided whether or not the Barsapara Stadium is judged suitable to host an ODI match on January 1.
Meanwhile, the Barsapara Stadium’s ground crew has begun getting the field ready for the match.
It should be remembered that the game between the two Asian giants is expected to be played in Guwahati on January 12.
In the second of a three-match bilateral series in October of this year, South Africa was the guest team at the ACA Barsapara Cricket Stadium last time around.
It was the first game following the disaster in January 2020 when after rain ruined the opening T20 match against Sri Lanka, ground staff were seen attempting various methods to dry the pitch, resulting in a comedy of errors that drew harsh criticism.
The match in October 2022 against South Africa had more than their fair shares of controversy with play being stopped twice—once for faulty floodlights and again for a snake that wandered onto the playing field.
