Crime Rate Against Women Down By 50% In Assam, States Assam CM

Guwahati, 5th December: Assam has recorded a decrease over a 50% fall in crimes against women in the last five years, as per the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report for 2022 released on Sunday.

Taking to platform X (earlier Twitter), Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “The latest NCRB report suggests overall crime in Assam has reduced by nearly 50% since 2021. Our efforts in transparent recruitment and investments in SMART policing is bearing fruit. We will not rest till Assam is crime free.”

Sarma attributed this positive trend to the successful implementation of transparent recruitment practices and strategic investments in SMART policing.

Expressing unwavering commitment, Sarma declared that their collective efforts will persist until Assam achieves a state of being completely free from crime.

Meanwhile, the NCRB 2022 report highlighted that the annual cases of crime against women remained consistently above 26,000 from 2018 to 2021 but decreased to slightly over 14,000 in the previous year. Furthermore, the rate of crime against women, persisting at over 150% from 2018 to 2021, has now dropped to double digits.
