CRPF Chief to Visit Manipur Amidst Escalating Violence

Imphal: In a move to address the escalating violence and unrest in Manipur, the Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Anish Dayal Singh, is scheduled to visit the state.

The visit comes as tensions reach a boiling point following a series of violent protests and clashes.

On Thursday, November 16, angry mobs stormed the residences of several MLAs and ministers, expressing outrage over the recent discovery of six bodies believed to be victims of abduction by suspected militants. The capital city of Imphal witnessed intense protests, with demonstrators targeting the homes of prominent figures like Sagolband MLA Sapam Kujakeshwar, Patsoi MLA Sapam Nishikanta, and Cabinet Minister Ranjan.

The unrest further escalated at Khwairamband Ima Keithel, Asia’s largest all-women market, where thousands gathered to condemn the violence and demand justice for the victims of the Jiribam abduction and killings. The market, usually a bustling hub of activity, turned into a somber scene of grief and anger.

The CRPF chief’s visit is expected to assess the security situation on the ground and to coordinate with local authorities to restore peace and order in the troubled state.
