CRPF Officer Dismissed for Sexual Harassment Charges

National Desk, 27th April: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has taken decisive action against one of its high-ranking officers, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Khajan Singh, following substantiated allegations of sexual harassment. The removal order, issued on the recommendation of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and with the approval of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), underscores the gravity of the situation.

Singh, who held the position of chief sports officer in the CRPF, faced accusations of sexually harassing female personnel within the paramilitary force. After a thorough investigation into the allegations, the CRPF concluded his guilt, prompting the submission of a report to the UPSC. Subsequently, the MHA sanctioned his dismissal from service, in line with legal procedures.

Prior to his tenure as CRPF chief sports officer, Singh achieved notable success as an athlete, representing India in the 1986 Seoul Asian Games, where he secured a silver medal in the 200-metre butterfly event. However, his contributions to sports were overshadowed by the serious misconduct allegations he faced.

Singh, currently stationed in Mumbai, has been granted a 15-day period to respond to the dismissal notice. While he vehemently denied the accusations earlier, dismissing them as ‘absolutely false’, the disciplinary action underscores the CRPF’s commitment to upholding integrity and accountability within its ranks.

The CRPF, comprising approximately 3.25 lakh personnel, has been at the forefront of integrating women into its ranks since 1986. Today, it boasts six all-women battalions and acknowledges the contributions of women in various capacities, including sports and administration.
