Cyclone Mandous: 4 dead in rain-related incidents in Tamil Nadu, says CM Stalin

Guwahati: Four people have died in Tamil Nadu after Cyclone Mandous made landfall off Mamallapuram and caused heavy rainfall in Chennai and the state’s coastal regions.

This was confirmed by the states Chief Minister M K Stalin.

Chief Minister M K Stalin said, “So far, four human fatalities, deaths of 98 cattle and damage to 181 residences had been reported. Other details were being collected.”

Late on Friday night, Cyclone Mandous crossed the shore with winds of 75 km per hour.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclone has now weakened into a deep depression.

Stalin also distributed food and flood relief supplies to those affected by the hurricane earlier today in the Kasimedu area of Chennai.

The state capital of Chennai and the adjoining Chengalpattu district both saw tree uprooting winds and water logging in various regions.

Local officials in Tirupati and leaders of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP), including MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, visited the cyclone-affected areas on Saturday in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

Some residential areas experienced water logging and tree uprooting after the south coastal Andhra Pradesh had significant rainfall.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel are on standby, officials said. The Tamil Nadu government has published a list of helplines in the event of any flood-related crises.
