Dak Runner Held with Ganja at Itanagar Secretariat Gate, Police Foil Drug Possession Attempt

In a significant breakthrough, Itanagar District Police intercepted a drug possession case at the main gate of the Civil Secretariat around 1:00 PM on April 11.

The accused, identified as 53-year-old Pankaj Lahkar from Nalbari, Assam, was employed as a Dak Runner in the Power Department. During routine security checks, he was found carrying 46.11 grams of ganja.

The contraband, concealed in a black polythene and grey cloth bag, was discovered during frisking conducted by Head Constable Tago Nguki. The swift operation was led under the supervision of Capital SP Rohit Rajbir Singh and SDPO Kengo Dirchi. The seizure was officially carried out in the presence of two under secretaries from the Secretariat.

SP Singh praised the alertness and efficiency of the security personnel, reaffirming the force’s dedication to maintaining a drug-free Itanagar. He emphasized that the police remain vigilant, particularly in sensitive government zones.

An investigation is now underway to trace the source of the narcotics and determine whether a broader network is involved.
