Dalai Lama Donates Rs 10 Lakh for Sikkim Flash Flood Relief
Northeast Desk, 13th October: The Tibetan spiritual leader, Dalai Lama, has made a generous donation of Rs 10 lakh to assist with the relief and rehabilitation efforts in Sikkim, which was recently hit by flash floods.
Dalai Lama sent a letter along with the donation to Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang. In the letter, he mentioned that the sum of Rs 10 lakh is being contributed through the Dalai Lama Trust to support the relief and rescue efforts in the Himalayan state.
Chief Minister Tamang expressed his gratitude, saying, “On behalf of the people of Sikkim and our government, I extend our heartfelt gratitude to His Holiness for his gracious sentiments and generous support during this moment of hardship. We are deeply moved by His Holiness’s compassionate concerns and prayers. We would also like to express our profound appreciation and gratitude to the Dalai Lama Trust for their invaluable assistance. Their unwavering support has been a source of immense strength and inspiration for our community.”
Dalai Lama’s donation comes in the wake of flash floods that impacted Sikkim, causing significant damage to infrastructure and connectivity throughout the state. The flash flood was triggered by an outburst of Lhonak Lake in North Sikkim on October 4, leading to a heavy inflow into the Teesta River and substantial damage to bridges, parts of NH10, small towns, and infrastructure in the Teesta River Valley of Sikkim.
