Daughter of Fast Food Vendor, Patharkandi Girl Scores 89% in HSLC, Aims for Civil Services

Guwahati: In a heartening tale of grit and perseverance, Sharmila Sinha, a student of Patharkandi Government Model Higher Secondary School, has defied all odds to secure an impressive 89% in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination.

Hailing from Narainpur village in the Patharkandi constituency of Sri Bhumi district, Sharmila’s story stands as a powerful testament to the belief that determination can overcome even the toughest circumstances.

Coming from a modest background, her father, Milon Sinha, runs a small fast food stall while her mother, Shanti Sinha, is a homemaker. Despite financial challenges and having no access to private tuition, Sharmila’s unwavering dedication to her studies paid off — most notably in Bengali, where she scored a flawless 100 out of 100. Remarkably, Bengali is not her mother tongue; she is a native Manipuri speaker, making this achievement all the more extraordinary.

Alongside her academic pursuits, Sharmila took on household responsibilities and regularly helped her father at his food stall. Her ability to juggle these duties while maintaining academic excellence has earned her admiration from across the community.

With dreams that soar high, Sharmila now plans to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree and is setting her sights on the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) examinations. Her goal: to become a civil servant and contribute meaningfully to society.

Her success has not only brought immense pride to her family and school but also inspired many others across the state, proving that no dream is too distant when fueled by hard work, resilience, and belief in oneself.
