DCW Summons Twitter & Delhi Police Over Child Porn Content On Website
Guwahati: The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) summoned Twitter and the city police on Tuesday over claims that the microblogging site was hosting child pornography films.
Twitter and Delhi Police are expected to respond to the summons By september 26.
DCW chief Swati Maliwal said, “The Chandigarh University event got me thinking, therefore I ordered my team to look into it. On Twitter, we stumbled upon videos of young girls being raped. Even some of the platforms were charging between 20 and 30 for these films. It is horrible.”
Maliwal claimed that she questioned Twitter about the existence of these videos on the platform and their procedures for monitoring such content.
She further asked that a FIR be filed with the Delhi Police to identify individuals responsible for making and disseminating such recordings, as well as the accusers and victims.
Twitter has not yet responded to the summons in the meantime.
It should be mentioned that protests broke out on the Chandigarh University campus in Mohali of Punjab in response to claims that pornographic videos of several female students had been leaked. The investigation was mandated by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
