Delhi: 1 Arrested in a Case of Sexual Extortion

Guwahati: Delhi Police have detained one Rajasthan native in connection with a case of sexual extortion.

They claimed the defendant is the gang’s leader and that the group utilised blackmail to collect money from its victims. If their demands are not satisfied, the gang would threaten to make the victim’s vulnerable stance on camera popular online. Govind Ram, a 23-year-old resident of Rajasthan’s Bharatpur area, has been named as the defendant. The employees of the cyber police station of the outer district busted a case of cyber fraud and detained one accused person who was involved in sexual extortion fraud as part of the “Operation: Clean Sweep” effort to combat internet frauds, a police official said.

The culprit was detained, according to the police, after a case was filed in April of this year at the Cyber Police Station of the Outer District under section 384 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Later, the case also includes IPC sections 120B, 420, and 34.

The victim said that someone had communicated to him on WhatsApp while pretending to be a girl and sent him a message. Additionally, they made a video call, but the victim did not realise he was the victim of fraud. After a few days, the caller allegedly sent him a video that had been altered to portray the victim with a woman.

The accused allegedly sought payment from the victim for not posting the footage to social media. Then he sent Rs 12,500 from his account to the blackmailer.

The accused mobile number was discovered to be mostly based in Rajasthan, according to police, who added that information from the suspected bank accounts and phone numbers was analysed throughout the inquiry.

A police squad travelled to Rajasthan on September 12 and allegedly detained Govind Ram in Bharatpur.
They continued, “Efforts are being made to apprehend the co-accused, and tree cell phones that were used in the commission of the crime were recovered.”
