Delhi: 11 killed, 4 injured in massive fire at Alipur paint factory

National Desk, 16th February: As many as 11 people were tragically killed, and four others sustained injuries in a massive fire that erupted at paint and chemical godowns in outer Delhi’s Alipur on Thursday evening, as reported by news agency ANI, citing the fire department.

“The fire engulfed two paint and chemical godowns, leading to the loss of 11 lives and injuring four individuals. The deceased have been transferred to Babu Jagjeevan Ram Hospital, while the injured have been taken to Raja Harish Chandra Hospital,” stated the fire department.

The identities of the deceased are yet to be confirmed.

According to the Delhi Police, the fire was preceded by a blast, likely triggered by chemicals stored in the factory. This blast resulted in fires spreading to nearby houses and shops, according to news agency PTI, where some of the injured individuals resided.

An unnamed official from the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) informed the news agency that they received a distress call about the incident at 5:25 pm. Subsequently, at least 22 fire-tenders were deployed to combat the blaze.

The fire was eventually brought under control by 9 pm, with cooling-off operations currently underway.

Eyewitness Sumit Bharadwaj recounted the harrowing experience, stating, “The incident occurred around 5:30 pm. Everyone rushed here upon hearing an explosion. We made multiple attempts to extinguish the fire. Initially, around 7-8 fire tenders arrived and initiated firefighting operations…”
