Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Surrenders at Tihar Jail After Supreme Court Bail Ends
National Desk, 2nd June: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal surrendered at Tihar Jail on June 2 following the expiration of his interim bail granted by the Supreme Court, which ended on June 1. The bail had been granted in connection with an excise policy-linked money laundering case, allowing Kejriwal to campaign in the Lok Sabha polls.
Sources indicate that jail officials will conduct medical check-ups for Kejriwal, including monitoring his sugar and blood pressure levels. Prior to his surrender, Kejriwal paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat, offered prayers at the Hanuman temple in Connaught Place, and addressed AAP leaders and workers at the party office.
In a statement to the media after visiting Raj Ghat, Kejriwal criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP, asserting that he was being targeted for opposing “dictatorship.” He remarked, “I want to tell the people of Delhi – your son is returning to jail today. This is not because I am involved in any corruption, but because I have raised my voice against dictatorship. During the campaigning, the PM accepted that they don’t have any proof against me. They have raided more than 500 places but have not recovered a single penny.”
Kejriwal’s surrender marks a significant moment as he continues to maintain his innocence and stands firm on his stance against what he perceives as political vendetta.
