Delhi Court Acquits Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia in 2013 Defamation Case
Guwahati: Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Yogendra Yadav, a former leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was all exonerated-on Saturday by a Delhi court in a criminal defamation case.
The case was filed by Surender Kumar Sharma, who had claimed that his candidature from AAP was cancelled in the 2013 assembly elections at the last moment.
According to Sharma’s accusation, AAP activists approached him in 2013 and persuaded him to run for Delhi assembly on the party line since Kejriwal was happy with his volunteer work in the community.
He claimed that after being informed by Sisodia and Yadav that the AAP’s Political Affairs Committee had chosen to offer him the ticket, he filled out the application form to run for office. He later received a denial, though.
When issuing the ruling, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Vidhi Gupta stated that she had read the media reports the complainant had referenced, but that she was unable to utilise them to support her case for defamation.
The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Vidhi Gupta while passing the order said the media articles cited by the complainant has been perused; however, the complainant could not establish a case of defamation from these reports.
The court’s proclamation of the order was witnessed by all three parties.
