Delhi Dy CM Manish Sisodia moves Supreme Court over his arrest in liquor scam
Guwahati: Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia appealed both his detention and the way the CBI was handling its probe into the alleged liquor scam to the Supreme Court on February 28.
Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud decided to hear the case after it was presented before him for an urgent listing at 10.30 am on February 28, at 3:50 pm.
On February 27 evening, Sisodia was taken into custody in relation to allegations of corruption in the creation and execution of the now-cancelled Delhi excise policy for 2021–2022.
A special Delhi court ordered the CBI to hold him there for five days so they could question him effectively and find out more about the suspected scheme. The Rouse Avenue Court required that Sisodia be questioned by the CBI at a site with CCTV coverage in accordance with Supreme Court standards, and that the CBI would keep the film while remanding Sisodia to them.
The accused was ordered by the court to be held in the CBI’s custody for five days until March 4 in light of the relevant facts and circumstances so that he might be subjected to additional and in-depth questioning.
The Delhi deputy CM must be interrogated in custody; the CBI attorney said the court during arguments, in order to conduct a thorough probe.
The CBI stated, “Conspiracy was hatched in a very planned and secret manner” when it sought Sisodia’s five-day remand.
On February 27, the CBI released a statement on Sisodia’s arrests, stating that he was providing evasive answers and was refusing to cooperate with the ongoing probe into the liquor scam.
