Delhi: Farmers Stage Protest in Jantar Mantar

Guwahati: Farmers from several states demonstrated against unemployment at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Monday morning.

The Delhi Police detained some farmers near the Ghazipur border as additional demonstrators entered the area in order to “manage the mob.”

Police set up checks at the borders, which caused a traffic jam while also disrupting city traffic. Due to increased security at the border entry points, traffic flow at the Noida-Delhi Chilla border has slowed considerably.

The Singhu border which is in North-West Delhi and the Ghazipur border which is on the Delhi-Meerut expressway, have both been barricaded by the Delhi Police.

The farmers’ umbrella organisation Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) had declared that they will commence a 75-hour sit-in in Lakhimpur Kheri of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday in order to advocate for their unmet demands.

Rakesh Tikait, the leader of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), participated in the Telangana leaders’ demonstration in New Delhi in April against the Centre’s paddy procurement policy and declared that the country needs another protest.
