Delhi: Former Punjab Congress Chief Sunil Jakhar Joins BJP

Guwahati: Former Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi on Thursday.

Jakhar joined BJP in the presence of party National President JP Nadda.

Welcoming Jakhar to the party, JP Nadda said, “I congratulate Sunil Jakhar on joining the Bharatiya Janata Party. He is a seasoned politician who has built a name for himself in the political arena. I am convinced that he would help to develop the party in Punjab.”

Punjab is a border state, and nationalist figures such as Jakhar are welcome to join the BJP, according to the party’s head. “There are difficulties in Punjab that are threatening the border state’s security, and leaders with strong nationalist beliefs are welcome to help battle such forces,” Nadda added.

The former Punjab Congress chief was enraged when he received a show-cause letter from the party on April 11. However, Jakhar elected not to respond to the Congress disciplinary committee.

The former MP also chastised former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi calling him a “burden” for the party after the Congress lost to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab.
