Dense Fog Grips Delhi-NCR, Disrupting Flights and Trains; Disruptions Expected till January 2

National Desk, 26th December: A dense fog enveloped the Delhi-NCR region on the morning of December 26, causing substantial disruptions to both air and rail travel. The India Meteorological Department reported a temperature drop to nearly 7 degrees Celsius in Delhi, with widespread dense fog expected to persist across various regions until January 2.

Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) issued an advisory reporting approximately 30 flights, including international ones, delayed due to low visibility conditions affecting both arrivals and departures. Two flights were diverted to manage the situation effectively, causing inconvenience to passengers who were advised to stay in contact with their airlines for updated information.

Rail travel within the Northern Zone of the Indian Railways was also affected, with 14 trains experiencing delays ranging from 1:30 to 4:30 hours due to reduced visibility around Delhi landmarks like India Gate and AIIMS. Despite advanced signaling systems, the density of the fog led to substantial delays, according to a railway spokesperson.

Dense fog in Delhi during winter is a common phenomenon, intensifying from mid-December to mid-January. Proximity to the Himalayas and cold waves contribute to the formation of heavy fogs and haze, leading to lower apparent temperatures due to wind chill. Travelers in Delhi are urged to plan accordingly, stay updated on travel information, and prepare for potential schedule changes during this period.
