Devajit Saikia Elected BCCI Secretary Unopposed, Marking a Milestone for Assam Cricket

Assam: The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has extended its heartfelt congratulations to Devajit Saikia on his unopposed election as Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The election, held at the BCCI Special General Meeting in Mumbai on Sunday, also saw Prabhtej Singh Bhatia elected as Treasurer.

Saikia, who previously served as BCCI Joint Secretary and had been performing additional duties as Secretary since Jay Shah’s appointment as ICC Chairman in December, has been lauded for his contributions to cricket administration.

ACA President Taranga Gogoi, while felicitating Saikia in Mumbai, commended his visionary leadership, stating, “Saikia has been a steadfast pillar of the ACA, playing a vital role in conceptualizing and executing groundbreaking initiatives for cricket in Assam. His leadership will further elevate the reputation and success of the sport on national and global platforms.”

ACA Secretary Tridib Konwar echoed the sentiments, expressing confidence that cricket will continue to flourish under Saikia’s guidance.

A seasoned administrator, Saikia has served as Vice-President (2016-2019) and Secretary (2019-2022) of the ACA. He is also the Advocate General of Assam.

The ACA hailed Saikia’s election as a historic milestone for Assam’s cricketing journey, adding, “Under his leadership, cricket will continue to thrive and reach unprecedented heights.”

This development marks a significant achievement for Assam, positioning the state prominently on India’s cricketing map.
