‘Development Through Credit’ programme started in Sikkim’

In order to revive an Economy of the state, a new credit programme has been started by the state government called ”Development Through Credit” which is being implemented by Department of Agriculture, Horticulture and AH&VS in coordination with Lead Bank, NABARD and RBI. Ambitious farmers oriented credit loan scheme was launched by Chief Minister, Prem Singh Tamang (Golay )as a on 28th August 2020 at Geyzing for west district and farmers from rest of other districts of Sikkim also will be included in the scheme in the later phase of the programme. CM also handed over the cheques to beneficiaries.

The programme aims to strengthen the agriculture and allied sector the State Government is providing facilities of loan schemes to the farmers. Farmers from rest of other districts of Sikkim also will be included in the scheme.

It was informed that 858 farmers from West Sikkim have been selected for the credit loan scheme after necessary assessment processes for various kinds of farming ventures such as diary farming, bee keeping, poultry farming and other agricultural practices. Rupees 28 crores has been sanctioned under the scheme.

Due to COVID – 19 induced restrictions, farmers selected for loan sheme could not be invited in the programme. Hence, seventeen farmers from eight constituencies of West Sikkim were handed over sanctioned cheques related to some agricultural schemes by the Chief Minister .

It was informed that a sum of 13 crore rupees has been sanctioned under the scheme in phase 1 of the Development through Credit programme for beneficiaries of South Sikkim and the objective of the Farmer’s Outreach credit programme was mainly being initiated to boost the rural economy and agriculture sector through financial credit from various financial institutions which will offer monetary aid which in turn comes with various features and benefits for farmers all across Sikkim.

CM PS Tamang talking to media urged the beneficiaries to utilize the said loans in a judicious manner for the right reasons and advised them on planning how to spend the money based on what resources will benefit them the most and keep their business running.

He also said Loan is just a support from the government, farmers should take benefits, if they pay back the loan on time and they established thier projects then it for their welfare but our work is to facilitate only and what help they needed from government we are ready to provide them said CM PS Tamang while speaking to media after Farmer’s Outreach Credit Camp held in South District today at Namchi.
