DGP Amitabh Ranjan Orders Statewide Vigil After Tripura Violence

Northeast Desk, 25th July: In response to the recent violence in Tripura’s Gandatwisa, which left over 80 families displaced, Director General of Police (DGP) Amitabh Ranjan has called for heightened vigilance across the state. The violence, which erupted on July 12, was triggered by the death of a tribal youth amid a clash between two groups in Dhalai district, leading to widespread arson and looting.

On Wednesday, DGP Ranjan convened a state-level law and order meeting at the SP office in Ambassa, the district headquarters of Dhalai. The meeting was convened to address the aftermath of the violence and to strategize on maintaining order and preventing further unrest.

During the meeting, DGP Ranjan praised the quick response of the police force, which he said was crucial in controlling the situation. He stressed the importance of continuing strict measures against those responsible for the violence, including the use of central forces and Tripura State Rifles to ensure peace and stability.

Additionally, the Tripura Human Rights Commission (THRC) has issued a notice to the DGP, seeking a report on the actions taken by law enforcement to address the looting and arson. The commission’s notice demands information on the progress of investigations and the measures implemented to bring the perpetrators to justice.

DGP Ranjan instructed all Superintendents of Police (SPs) to remain vigilant, especially regarding ethnic and communal tensions, and to implement preventive measures to avoid further escalation. He also emphasized the need for enhanced coordination among security personnel as the state approaches the panchayat elections.

DGP (Intelligence) Anurag Dhankar echoed these sentiments, highlighting the importance of thorough management of emerging situations to maintain public order and safety.
