DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta: “Victor Das Couldn’t Provide Us Any Concrete Evidence”
Guwahati: Director General of Police (DGP) Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta claimed on Saturday, that Victor Das had misconstrued the facts and was unable to offer reliable information.
“Victor was unable to provide us with any hard evidence about the issue at hand. He had misconstrued the entire incident, he hastily told reporters.
Victor Das was detained on Friday evening, on suspicion of distributing untrue information regarding the selection for the Grade III and IV positions of the Direct Recruitment examination, which was conducted throughout Assam on August 21 and 28.
Taking to twitter, the Guwahati Police said, “One Victor Das has been arrested for spreading false rumors and indulging in a conspiracy to foment discord between various sections of society over selection to Government posts.”
In response to questions from the authorities, Das was unable to provide any solid evidence to support the claims he had made on social media.
In a tweet, Guwahati-based coach Victor Das said that “a major lobby is operating for the backdoor appointment” and that “people are seeking money from 3 lakhs to 8 lakhs depending on the role.”
Tagging the state Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, Special DGP GP Singh over twitter, Victor wrote, “Respected Sir, a huge lobby is running for the backdoor appointment of the recently held ADRE exams where people are demanding money from 3 lakhs to 8 lakhs depending on the post, also a few ex-MLA is involved. Please help.”
