Guwahati: The Director General of Police stated on Saturday that thieves from outside of Assam have emerged as a source of concern as reports of certain crimes in Guwahati have increased over the last few months.
Speaking to the media, DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta noted that although a few minor crimes have increased recently, this does not necessarily indicate that the situation is out of control.
He said that the police are conducting particular drives to reduce such crimes.
He asserted that in addition to this, crimes perpetrated by people from outside Assam had come to be of concern. “Some thieves from UP and Bihar come to the state on trains, commit a certain crime and then head back”, he added.
The DGP noted that the police are conducting special drives to monitor these in order to calm the situation.
He informed that the police are conducting targeted operations in Kokrajhar and Bongaigaon to find these people.
