Dhubri Embraces Green Future with Pioneering Plog Run and “Paura Sakhi” Launch
Dhubri: In a vibrant display of environmental commitment, the Dhubri Municipal Board marked World Environment Day today with a groundbreaking citywide Plog Run and Clean-Up Drive, simultaneously unveiling its innovative “Paura Sakhi” task force.
This dual initiative underscores the board’s proactive approach to fostering sustainable urban cleanliness and community participation.
Seventeen dedicated women, christened “Paura Sakhis” (city friends), were formally inducted into service, commencing their year-long tenure as pivotal figures in Dhubri’s sanitation efforts. This significant undertaking is backed by the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban (SBM-U) and expertly implemented by the Feed Back Foundation Charitable Trust. The Paura Sakhis are set to revolutionise waste management in the district, spearheading door-to-door waste collection, championing garbage segregation awareness, and actively engaging with communities across all municipal wards.
The event’s flag-off ceremony saw the convergence of key municipal figures, including Namrata Pradip Sharma, Executive Officer of the Dhubri Municipal Board, and Umesh Roy, Conservancy In-charge and Ward No. 1 Commissioner. Their presence, alongside other diligent municipal staff and Safai Karmis, symbolised a united front for environmental stewardship and a collective aspiration for a cleaner Dhubri.
Under the astute leadership of appointed team leader Aman Shah, the Paura Sakhis will orchestrate targeted clean-up operations within residential zones. This will be seamlessly integrated with the promotion of ‘plogging’, a dynamic fitness trend that ingeniously combines jogging or walking with the collection of litter. This innovative approach aims to transform waste collection into an engaging, healthy activity.
This comprehensive initiative is meticulously designed to cultivate a profound sense of civic responsibility among Dhubri’s citizens. By ensuring stringent household-level compliance with waste segregation norms and actively curbing environmental pollution at its very source, the programme seeks to create a lasting positive impact. Dhubri is truly charting a progressive course towards a cleaner, greener tomorrow, powered by the collective spirit of its people and the dedicated efforts of its newly minted Paura Sakhis.
