
Dibrugarh Leads Assam in NOTA Votes as Election Results Highlight Mixed Outcomes
Guwahati, 6th June: The Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency, represented by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, recorded the highest number of NOTA (None of the Above) votes in Assam, according to the Election Commission data. Out of the total 240,301 NOTA votes cast across the state, Dibrugarh accounted for 32,255 votes.
In stark contrast, Karimganj recorded the lowest number of NOTA votes, with only 2,940 ballots. BJP’s Kripanath Malla was re-elected from this constituency.
The newly established Kaziranga constituency, represented by BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, had the second highest number of NOTA votes, tallying 24,431. This was followed closely by Darrang-Udalguri, where 23,204 NOTA votes were cast. In this constituency, BJP’s Dilip Saikia was re-elected.
Guwahati saw 20,249 NOTA votes, where BJP’s Bijuli Kalita Medhi emerged victorious. In Sonitpur, represented by BJP’s Ranjit Dutta, 18,748 NOTA votes were recorded. Barpeta, won by AGP’s Phani Bhushan Choudhury, had 17,117 NOTA votes, while Lakhimpur, retained by BJP’s Pradan Baruah, saw 16,921 NOTA votes.
In Dhubri, where Congress’s Rakibul Hussain defeated AIUDF’s Badruddin Ajmal, 15,015 NOTA votes were cast. Jorhat, won by Congress’s Gaurav Gogoi, recorded 14,555 NOTA votes.
Overall, the BJP won nine seats in Assam, while the AGP and UPPL each secured one seat. The Congress claimed victory in three constituencies. The elections to the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam were conducted in three phases on April 19, April 26, and May 7, with a voter turnout of 81.56 percent.
