Disappearance of Social Media Influencer and Husband Raises Concerns After Investment Scam in Assam
Guwahati, September 4, 2024 — The arrest of Bishal Phukan, alleged to be involved in a major investment scam in Assam, has intensified public interest in the whereabouts of Sumi Borah, a social media influencer and artiste, along with her husband Tarkik Borah, a photographer. The couple is currently missing after being summoned by the Assam police for questioning.
Sumi and Tarkik drew significant attention for their extravagant destination wedding at Raffles Udaipur Resort in Rajasthan on November 23, 2023. The high-profile event was attended by numerous figures from the Assamese film and music industry, alongside relatives from Assam.
Following Phukan’s arrest in Dibrugarh on the night of September 2, Assamese singer Dikshu Sharma has come forward with information linking the couple to the ongoing investigation. Dikshu revealed that Sumi and Tarkik visited his home before their disappearance.
“They were here at my home when I returned around 9:30 p.m. on September 2,” Dikshu said. “They were visibly tense and sought my advice on how to handle the situation. I suggested they should be truthful and cooperate with the police. I advised them to go to the police station and clarify their involvement. However, after the phone call with the police got disconnected, they left, and I haven’t heard from them since.”
Dikshu elaborated on his connection with Tarkik, noting that they had known each other for a long time through Tarkik’s photography work. He described Sumi as having been like family since she appeared in Dikshu’s song “Parijaat” and expressed surprise at the lavish scale of the wedding, which he assumed was funded by their savings and investments.
As the investigation into the investment scam continues, the authorities are actively seeking the missing couple, who are expected to shed light on their involvement and provide crucial information related to the case.
