Dispute Over Meeting on Frontier Nagaland Territory Persists Amid Public Emergency

Northeast Desk, 17th March: Amid the ongoing “public emergency” declared in six districts of eastern Nagaland due to the Frontier Nagaland Territory issue, 20 regional legislators have urged the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) to postpone the proposed meeting scheduled for March 19.

The Eastern Nagaland Legislator’s Union (ENLU), currently in Delhi to discuss the Frontier Nagaland issue with central leaders, conveyed their request to defer the meeting until a more convenient time can be arranged. They emphasized their willingness to meet once they return from their discussions in Delhi.

However, the ENPO has declined the request, citing the urgency of the situation and the need for immediate dialogue. Despite the legislators’ tight schedule and the Election Model Code of Conduct already in effect for the Lok Sabha 2024 elections, the ENPO remains steadfast in their decision to proceed with the scheduled meeting.

The ENPO had convened the meeting with the state’s lone Rajya Sabha MP, 20 elected members of the eastern region, and leaders of various civil society organizations on March 19 to address the pressing issue of the Frontier Nagaland Territory.
