Drastic Decline in Murder and Rape Cases in Assam Over the last 5 Years, CM Sarma shares data
Guwahati, 25th October: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared data on October 25th, illustrating a significant decline in crime rates within the state over the past five years.
Expressing optimism and delight regarding the decreasing trend in serious crimes, including murder, rape, and dacoity, CM Sarma took to X and wrote, “Our commitment to make Assam a crime-free State is moving positively in the right direction. Sharing an update on the decreasing trend of all major kind of crimes recorded in the State”.
The data provided by CM Sarma highlights a substantial reduction in murder cases, which dropped to 686 in 2023 compared to 1235 cases in 2019. Similarly, rape cases decreased to 656 in 2023, down from 1952 cases in 2019. Dacoity cases have also seen a dramatic decline, with 55 cases recorded in 2023 compared to 198 cases in 2019.
Upon closer examination of the data, it becomes evident that the number of reported rape cases has significantly decreased over the past five years, with the highest number of cases reported in 2019 and 2021.
CM Sarma attributes this downward trend in crime rates in Assam to active police patrolling, increased efficiency in crime management, the utilization of forensics, enhanced cooperation between the public and law enforcement, as well as the steadfast support and collaboration of the state government in implementing rigorous policies to combat crime.
