Droupadi Murmu Takes Oath as 15th President of India
Guwahati: Droupadi Murmu on Monday took oath as the 15th President of India at the Parliament’s Central Hall.
Murmu was administered the oath by Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana. Addressing the nation soon after taking oath, the first ever tribal woman and the second woman president said that the trust and support of the people are her greatest strengths.
Droupadi Murmu stated that she was honoured to take charge at a time when India is completing 75 years of Independence. She added that she’s the first President to be born in independent India.
The former Jharkhand Governor marked a historic victory over Opposition’s presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha in the president polls on July 22 by becoming the first woman tribal candidate and the second woman in the country to occupy the highest office in the country.
President Murmu was seen wearing a tri-color saree which represent the Indian emotion the National flag in the oath taking ceremony.
Moreover, President Murmu paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi the father of the nation, at Raj Ghat and also visited Rashtrapati Bhavan where she was welcomed by former President Ram Nath Kovind and his wife Savita Kovind.
