In a significant triumph against the pervasive menace of narcotics, the Assam Police on Friday, May 24, successfully apprehended an individual in the Karbi Anglong district, seizing illicit drugs estimated to be worth a staggering Rs 5 crore. The dramatic interception unfolded at a routine checkpoint in the Khatkhati area, where police officials flagged down a truck en route to Uttar Pradesh from Manipur.
Upon thorough inspection, law enforcement personnel discovered a clandestine compartment within the vehicle, cleverly concealing seven packets containing a total of 4.899 kg of morphine. One person linked to the consignment was immediately taken into custody. The recovered morphine, a potent opioid, carries an estimated street value of approximately Rs 5 crore, marking a substantial blow to the illegal drug trade operating through the state. This operation underscores the Assam Police’s relentless efforts to curb the cross-border trafficking of illicit substances and protect the youth from its devastating consequences.
