Drug Peddlers Busted in Sikkim: Trio Arrested with Commercial Quantity of Illicit Substances

A decisive police operation has struck a blow against the drug trade in Sikkim after officers from the Temi Police Station intercepted a car carrying a commercial quantity of illegal substances. The bust occurred earlier this week in the Dalep area of Namchi district, following a routine checking drive that was strategically executed based on prior intelligence.

The vehicle, a Maruti 800 with registration number SK 06 Z 0114, was stopped, leading to the discovery of a substantial haul of controlled drugs. The seized quantity is legally designated as “commercial,” a term that highlights the potential for widespread distribution and significant harm to society. This successful raid underscores the commitment of Sikkim’s law enforcement to tackling the growing drug menace that threatens the state’s youth.

Police have arrested three individuals in connection with the case: Roshan Rai (31), the driver, from Tikjuk, Gyalshing; Prakash Rai (41), also from Tikjuk; and Bishal Rai (35), from Boom Bara Samdong, Kaluk. All three were immediately taken into custody. Preliminary interrogations are currently in progress to determine the source of the drugs and their intended destination, with police hopeful of uncovering the larger network behind this operation. A case has been officially registered under the stringent Sikkim Anti-Drugs Act (SADA), ensuring that the accused will face strict legal action. Authorities have confirmed that investigations are ongoing to uncover potential links to a broader trafficking ring.
