Drug Supplier Nabbed Inside Arunachal Pradesh Civil Secretariat with Heroin Cache
Itanagar: Itanagar Police have achieved a significant victory in their ongoing Operation Dawn 2.0, successfully apprehending a drug supplier within the highly secured premises of the Civil Secretariat. The operation unfolded swiftly, leading to the seizure of 44.36 grams of suspected heroin.
The dramatic turn of events occurred at approximately 2:40 PM, triggered by the vigilance of a staff member within the Secretariat. This alert individual reported a person suspected of dealing drugs, who was found confined to a bathroom on the third floor of Block No. 3. Secretariat security personnel had already intervened, intercepting the individual who had allegedly entered the complex with the intent to sell narcotics.
Responding promptly to the information, a dedicated police team arrived at the location. The team was led by SDPO Shri Kengo Dirchi and included Inspector Khiksi Yangfo, SI Kenter Tacha, and the Police Station ready party. The entire operation was conducted under the direct supervision of SP Shri Rohit Rajbir Singh, IPS.
The individual apprehended has been identified as Vicky Chetry, a 32-year-old resident of Zero Point, Itanagar. Notably, Chetry is employed as a Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) within the Horticulture Department. His permanent address is listed as Borgolai Milan Nagar in the Tinsukia district of Assam.
In adherence to legal protocols, a thorough personal search of the accused was conducted in the presence of independent witnesses. These witnesses included First Class Magistrate Oli Koyu, Dy. GA Bapir Megu, and SPA Punyo Obing. The search yielded eight plastic vials and one tobacco container containing suspected heroin, along with four used syringes and a sum of Rs. 32,760/- in cash.
Further investigation extended to the bathroom where the suspect was initially found. A subsequent search of this area led to the discovery of an additional eighteen plastic vials concealed behind a window, along with three scissors, believed to be implements used in the handling of drugs.
The total quantity of narcotics seized during the operation amounted to 44.36 grams of suspected heroin. This included 36.82 grams (gross weight with vials) found in 26 plastic vials and an additional 7.54 grams contained within the tobacco container.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that all procedures were carried out strictly in accordance with the guidelines of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. A formal case has been registered in connection with the incident, and investigations are currently underway to uncover any further links or networks involved.
The Itanagar Police have commended the alertness and sense of responsibility demonstrated by the Secretariat staff member whose timely tip-off proved crucial to the success of the operation. The swift and coordinated response of the police team was also lauded for its effectiveness in apprehending the suspect and seizing the contraband.
This significant arrest within the high-security zone of the Civil Secretariat sends a clear and strong message, underscoring the commitment of law enforcement to combat the drug menace, regardless of the location or perceived security of the premises.
