Drug Trafficker Nabbed in South West Garo Hills, Contraband Seized
Shillong: In a decisive operation on State Highway 12 near Ambari’s Kiln Factory, South West Garo Hills Police intercepted a suspected drug trafficker on Saturday, seizing a substantial quantity of illegal substances.
The accused, Md Aktar Hussain, 32, a resident of South Salmara Mankachar district in Assam, was found in possession of 992 yaba tablets and 19.21 grams of heroin concealed in two soap boxes. A Yamaha FZ bike, bearing registration number AS 17J 2814 and allegedly used for transporting the contraband, was also confiscated during the operation.
Hussain has been remanded to police custody for three days as investigations continue to uncover possible links to broader drug trafficking networks.
The seizure is part of an ongoing effort by South West Garo Hills Police to combat drug trafficking in the region. In 2024 alone, the district has seen 12 drug-related cases registered, resulting in 17 arrests.
Law enforcement officials reaffirmed their commitment to dismantling drug networks that threaten public safety, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and collaboration in addressing the growing menace.
