Drugs Worth Rs 12 crore Seized in Mizoram

National Desk, 22 May: In the ongoing war against drugs, Mizoram Police on Monday seized a huge quantity of illegal substances worth a staggering Rs 12 crore.

Based on intelligence, a team of SB officers from the Mizoram police stopped a truck with the license plate MZ-01X-2184 in Tawngtaimual, Zemabawk and found 200 soap cases of heroin, totaling 2.461 kgs.

The seized drugs were suspected to be worth over Rs 12 crore.

The seized heroin, car and handyman who was allegedly a 16-year-old boy from Hailakandi in Assam of the seized car were all taken to the Bawngkawn police station for additional inquiry.

According to police, a case was filed under the ND&PS Act.

Earlier this month, a drug dealer was arrested with 12.5 crore rupees worth of heroin concealed in soap cases in Mizoram.

A narcotics dealer from Assam’s Cachar district Abdul Mazid Laskar was taken into custody by the Mizoram Police Special Branch (CID SB). In response to a confidential tip, a special squad of Mizoram Police officers conducted a raid during which they stopped a truck and apprehended the heroin dealer in Seling.

200 soap cases containing 2.553kg of heroin were taken from him by the police during the raid.

The heroin that was seized is thought to have a global market worth more than Rs. 12.5 crore.
