Guwahati: Tensions rose in Rangia of Assam on Saturday after a dumper drove over two pedestrians and killed them on the spot.

The incident reportedly occurred at Rangia Tiniali.

As per reports, the incident was witnessed by locals in the area, who then set fire to the negligent dumper.

Two people were killed on the spot as a result of the accident. They were identified as Nazim Ali and Hatim Ali, residents of Narayangaon.

Locals were so outraged by the scenes that they burned the dumper involved in the event on fire, which worsened the situation.

Meanwhile, local police rushed to the spot immediately to bring the situation under control.

Locals protested the reckless driving of dumpers by staging a sit-in strike that blocked the connecting route between Rangia and Bhutan. They alleged that locals have been terrorized by fast moving heavy vehicles and accidents frequently take place at the junction.
