Presently, the turnout poll stands at 32.70 percent in the Shillong constituency and 33.82 percent in Tura, reflecting the active participation of citizens in shaping the state’s political landscape.
Amidst the competition for Meghalaya’s two parliamentary seats – Shillong and Tura, voters flocked to polling stations in large numbers, with early voters receiving special recognition for their proactive involvement. Polling authorities extended tokens of appreciation to early voters, including graphic mugs, certificates, and saplings, underscoring the significance of their contribution to the electoral process.
In addition to honoring early voters, authorities lauded first-time voters and senior citizens who participated enthusiastically in the polling process. Special arrangements, such as selfie zones and sapling planting activities, were organized to enhance voter enthusiasm and engagement across assembly constituencies like Mawshynrut, Muriap, Khliehriat, Saipung, and Sohra.
The robust turnout of voters was evident in areas like Ichamati, where a significant number of citizens exercised their franchise with fervor. Moreover, efforts to promote environmental conservation were also observed, with the planting of a tree guard at Mawkasiang village in the Mylliem Block.
Chief Electoral Officer of Meghalaya, BDR Tiwari, led by example by casting his vote at Pine Mount School in the Shillong constituency. In a gesture of appreciation, Tiwari commended senior voters and first-time voters for their invaluable contribution to the electoral process, presenting them with mugs and certificates as tokens of recognition.
The energetic participation of voters and the inclusive approach adopted by electoral authorities underscore the democratic spirit and commitment to fair and transparent elections in Meghalaya. As polling continues, the focus remains on ensuring the free expression of citizens’ voices and upholding the principles of democracy across the state.
