East Khasi Hills District Administration Requests List of Migrant Workers from Durga Puja Committees
Northeast Desk, 9th October: In a recent development, the East Khasi Hills District Administration has requested all Durga Puja Committees (DPCs) in the region to provide a list of migrant laborers and workers involved in decoration work, accompanied by their voter ID or Aadhar card. The deadline for submitting this information is Monday, October 9.
This request came during a meeting between the Central Puja Committee (CPC) and East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah. It is important to note that this requirement excludes local vendors, laborers, and priests.
JL Das, the General Secretary of CPC, shared that senior members of DPCs will have the opportunity to accompany the immersion procession on foot from the State Central Library to CS point. He emphasized the need for discipline during the immersion procession scheduled for October 24.
The Deputy Commissioner assured that a separate order would be issued for Nepali DPCs, allowing them to conduct their Phoolpati Yatra on October 21 and Maha Kalratri Puja at midnight on October 22.
Furthermore, it has been clarified that no individual or community puja committees in Greater Shillong will be permitted to immerse or place idols in streams. Violations of this directive may result in action taken against the offenders.
Das urged CPC Zonal Coordinators and Puja Committees in Greater Shillong to inform all Private Puja Performers within their zones to place idols only at the CPC-designated Immersion Ghat at Polo Shillong after performing any puja involving idols. This measure is part of ensuring the smooth conduct of the Durga Puja festivities in the region.
