Eastern Nagaland Observes Peaceful Bandh

Northeast Desk, 9th March: The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) and its tribal affiliates orchestrated a peaceful 12-hour bandh across Eastern Nagaland, covering Kiphire, Mon, Tuensang, Longleng, Shamator, and Noklak areas. The bandh, declared as a “public emergency,” aimed to protest the delay by the Government of India in settling the offer for the creation of the ‘Frontier Nagaland Territory’ through the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Collaborating with tribal bodies like Chang Khulei Setshang, Khiamniungan Tribal Council, Konyak Union, and others, volunteers ensured effective enforcement of the bandh. Banners displayed at strategic locations symbolized the collective determination of the Eastern Nagaland community.

The public displayed commendable adherence throughout the bandh, staying indoors, and limiting vehicular movement, except for exempted cases. Closure of government offices, including District Commissioners and Superintendents of Police, along with businesses and schools, highlighted widespread participation in the peaceful protest.

Volunteers remained vigilant at key points in district headquarters and sub-divisions, ensuring smooth enforcement of the bandh. ENPO reaffirmed its stance, announcing the continued closure of government offices and restrictions on government vehicle movement until further notice. However, temporary relaxations are granted for public movement, private vehicles, and business operations.

ENPO warned against unauthorized use of private vehicles for government purposes, except those transporting essential commodities, with strict penalties promised for violators. Furthermore, any operational government offices in official or private residences face potential severe consequences.
