Eco-Sensitive Zone Declared in Assam’s Kaziranga
Guwahati: The Assam Government took major decisions at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday.
The following decisions were made at the cabinet meeting:
- For the safety of the animals, many sections of Kaziranga have been designated as eco-sensitive zones. The entire 10-kilometer stretch has been designated as an ecologically sensitive zone.
- In Kaziranga, 7 areas have been designated as protected areas, and 11 reserve forests have been established.
- There may be no construction in these environmentally sensitive areas. In eco-sensitive zones, no permissions will be issued for any type of construction work.
- In Kaziranga, nine areas have been designated as Animal Corridors.
- The cabinet also determined to pay the paper mill employees’ arrears within 3-4 months.
