ED Files Foreign Exchange Management Act(FEMA) Case Against BBC
Guwahati: Enforcement Directorate has filed a case against news broadcaster BBC India under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) with foreign exchange violations.
They claim that the federal investigation agency has also asked numerous corporate leaders for documentation and the recording of their comments in accordance with FEMA guidelines.
They claim that the company’s suspected violations of foreign direct investment (FDI) are the main focus of the probe.
The actions follow a February survey by the Income-Tax agency of the BBC’s Delhi headquarters.
The I-T department’s administrative body, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) then declared that the income and profits reported by different BBC group entities were “not commensurate” with the scope of their operations in India and that tax had not been paid on some remittances by its foreign entities.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma already earlier spoke out against the BBC film “India: The Modi Question,” which depicts the 2002 riots in Gujarat. The Chief Minister asserted during his address to the Assembly that the claims contained in the documentary against Prime Minister Narendra Modi are not true.
Concerns about the BBC propaganda documentary were raised by the Assam Vidhan Sabha. The documentary was published at a time when the G20 delegations were visiting Assam and more than five meetings were scheduled to take place there.
The Chief Minister of India acknowledged that 130 crore Indians had received vaccinations as a result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s immunisation campaign.
Additionally, Assam CM said that the G20 summit being hosted in India is a proud moment for the entire nation not just Modi.
